"I Will Wait," A Prayer Poem

I WILL WAIT

By: Terence Angtuaco, M.D.

Trying to turn this thing around,
Working myself to the ground,
No sign of rain coming but just a whiff of cloud,
Will I make it? Will I get to the land you vowed?

You said Jericho will be mine,
Just walk around the city seven times.
So simple it blows my mind.
Because you said so, I will comply.

I will wait,
Lord, patiently, I will wait.
I’ll be still,
Your presence I will feel.
I won’t insist on doing my thing,
Just to get relief from suffering.
I will wait, with faith, I will wait.
And trust that you will make things great.

I have to face this pain inside,
There’s no escape, its hold so tight.
There’s no relief, this ache so deep,
Only time and grace will give me peace.

Please pull this thorn out from my side,
“My grace is all you need” was your reply.
When Job complained and asked you “why?”
You answered him “Who commands the sky?”

I will wait,
Lord, patiently, I will wait.
I’ll be still,
Your presence I will feel.
I won’t insist on doing my thing,
Just to get relief from suffering.
I will wait, with faith, I will wait.
And trust that you will make things great.

I have no strength and I’m in pain,
Will I get to see tomorrow again?
Science leaves no hope to gain,
This body is weak and badly broken.

You told Naaman to wash his face
Seven times, his skin will heal and have no trace,
So simple it blew his mind,
It was no lie when he complied.

I will wait,
Lord, patiently, I will wait.
I’ll be still,
Your presence I will feel.
I won’t insist on doing my thing,
Just to get relief from suffering.
I will wait, with faith, I will wait.
And trust that you will make things great.

Holding on to hope is all I can,
You said, “come I’ll show you my plan.”
My simple mind can’t see a way,
But I know for sure you’ll do as you say.

The wisest man on earth will never say,
Old Abraham will ever father a babe,
But God did give His word he’ll have a son,
He left no doubt it came to be coz of Him, not man.

I will wait,
Lord, patiently, I will wait.
I’ll be still,
Your presence I will feel.
I won’t insist on doing my thing,
Just to get relief from suffering.
I will wait, with faith, I will wait.
And trust that you will make things great.
